Very Old Extra Large Authentic Karen Hill Tribe of Northern Thailand bronze elephant bell with unusual Hanuman design on two sides of the bell. Formerly used by Karen Hill Tribe mahouts to keep track of elephants. Elephant bells, especially large size elephant bells, are becoming increasingly difficult to find and procure as almost all the elephants in Northern Thailand have been moved to elephant conservation centers or tourist entertainment centers. Formerly they had been used by Karen and other hill tribes for tasks such as clearing land, etc. This is not a reproduction, it is an authentic Karen elephant bell that was used by a real elephant. To the Karen people, elephants are revered creatures. According to Karen folk lure, keeping such a bell that was used by an elephant in one’s home will ensure good luck and prosperity for the family living in that dwelling. I have included a brief history of the Karen People below.
Dimensions: Approx 15 inches X 6 inches X 5 inches with stand. Bell is approx 6 inches in diameter (can be seen in the photos above.)
Bell alone weighs approx. 1.6 kilograms (1600 grams)
